That plants take in carbon dioxide (co2) and water (h2o) and it produces oxygen (o2) and glucose (sugar.)This process needs to have light in order for it to happen.
Then we came with our hypothesis and designed our investigation.
Hypothesis:
The light in the candle will go out when there is no oxygen (o2) present and then the leaf will form oxygen when left in light over a period of 4 days.
Equipment:
1 X Large Jar
1 x Candle ( long)
1 x leaf (with chlorophyll present)
1 x matches
Method:
1. Light the candle.
2. Place the candle into the upside down jar with the leaf inside.
3. Observe
4. Once the flame is out leave the jar over turned for 3 days.
5. After 3 days pull the candle out without letting oxygen in.
6. Re light candle and place back into upturned jar.
7. Observe
Observations:
The flame initially went taller and went brighter. Then it slowly went out. It left behind smoke that filled the jar. It also left a black mark on the top of the jar.
Here is the video of the first part of our experiment. Check in a few days for the second part and our conclusion.
Awesome stuff Room 22. You are sounding like true scientists! Looking forward to reading the rest of your observations and seeing some more video!
ReplyDeleteThat was so fun wait till you see our next one i so cant wait!
