Starting with a bang

This week we started to explore science and why things happen. We went through and did the egg experiment.

Can you help us explain why this happens?

    When it re-cools (after the egg has been placed on the neck of the bottle) it is at a much lower pressure than the surrounding atmosphere; the weight of the air above it is then sufficient to push the egg into the bottle.
